How do I add page numbers to a PDF?
Choose a PDF, select a position and number format, then select Add Page Numbers & Download. The live preview uses your actual pages. The new PDF retains every source page.
Can I start numbering from page 2?
Yes. Skip First / Cover Page, set Start Numbering After Page N, or choose a custom range. Ignore Skipped Pages starts the sequence at your starting number on the first chosen page; Count Skipped Pages follows physical page positions.
Can I choose a different number format?
Yes. Plain or padded numbers, Page 1, Page 1 of 20, fractions, lowercase/uppercase Roman numerals, and custom {page}/{total} formats are supported. {total} is the physical document page count. Roman numerals support 1–3999. Section numbering is unavailable.
Can I number only selected PDF pages?
Yes. Use actual page thumbnails, odd/even pages, or a custom range. Pages are never removed. Selected numbering is applied in physical document order.
Can I place numbers at the bottom of each page?
Yes. Bottom Center is the default. The 3 × 3 position grid also supports corners and middle positions. Margins, offsets, mirroring, and a background rectangle are available. Labels that would be clipped block export with an explanation.
Are my documents uploaded or converted to images?
No. PDF reading, preview, text stamping, validation, and download are local. Source text, vectors, images, page sizes, and rotation are retained without image recompression. Only fixed application modules and your chosen fonts download from RecodeX.
What happens to forms and digital signatures?
Forms require confirmation to flatten visible values. New PDFs cannot retain existing signature validity. Supported links, standard annotations, and bookmarks can be preserved; tags, document-level attachments, and XMP are not retained and detected features require confirmation. Encrypted, XFA, layered, and unreadable files need a compatible source copy.
